Chapter Meeting - Recipe and Gear Swap

We've never met in Mandarin!
Request confirmation number: DMVBLLE

We have several seasoned hikers signed up for this meeting.
Instead of a formal program - let's do a camping recipe exchange and gear swap.  Bring a sample of your best campfire gourmet dish.
Maybe Santa brought you a set of tent stakes you don't need?  Bring them to swap!  We've done this in the past and it was alot of fun and completely unpredictable.

Thanks to everyone who came out. Good meeting. Cary did a nice overview of what we've done so far on trail maintenance. More work hikes coming up! Best recipe was Katie's stuffed roasted bananas with chocolate chips! Everyone walked away with something!

    Well for those that can't make it I want to share an old family recipe with y'all for Stuffed Camel;

    You need:
    1 med. camel
    4 lambs
    20 chickens (roasted)
    150 eggs
    40 lbs tomatoes
    Salt and seasonings

    Stuff eggs into tomatoes
    Stuff tomatoes into chickens
    Stuff chickens into lambs
    Stuff lambs into camel

    Roast until tender

    Serves 150

    :o) Bon Appetit

This looks like an awesome dish! How well does stuffed camel dehydrate? Any idea how many pounds of powdered eggs would equal 150? I might try to whip this up with one of my new stoves.

I hate that I am going to miss this one. I have lots of recipes and some gear to swap but have to be at a meeting elsewhere. With the number you have signed up for this we should consider another one soon. Have fun!

I second having another. I planned on coming, but am very behind in a work deadline matter, so will be working tomorrow night.

I am new to the group and looking forward to meeting everyone. No gear to swap though, but do have a recipe to share. Just moved here and eager to find new trails to explore.

Thanks Leslie, sounds like a fun group.

Just so no one gets too carried away - we won't have access to any kitchen facilities at the Library. If you want to brings "tasters"of your recipe, that would be great, but not expected.

We're getting quite a group to sign up. Should be lots of fun. Usually everyone walks away with something - a new recipe or a tent!
    Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Thanks, Mike. "Fetish" just makes me sound freaky. I'm so far from that it ain't even funny. I'm like the epitome of normal. But I got my OCHAS goin' ON!!

      And don't forget...stoves are accepted also. ;-)

My move to Jacksonville is set for Saturday, January 20th. Probably crazy, but would love to attend and meet everyone, but will not have anything unpacked, so no recipes etc. I could bring a cooked dish of something yummy, if that's acceptable? Marina

Don't sweat it. We'd love to have you join us.

I am only a day hiker, so far, at least, so I have no recipes, nor gear to swap. Well, I now have one recipe - for Spam; but I can't share what I've just gotten! Will I still be welcome?

    December 19, 2012

    • Cary B

Of course you're welcome. It's a great way to get started with gear. And if you'd like I can email you my super secret peanut butter crackers recipe that you could share.

      December 19, 2012

    • Deborah

Cary, you are so sweet - cannot wait to meet you! I'm going to set myself a challenge and find (and first test) a recipe to bring. Thank you for your kind offer.

  • Wendy G.

Cary, thanks for making me laugh so late at night. That is some kind of powerful cold med...I want some! Hugs wendy

    December 18, 2012

    • Cary B

:) I think I need some more. Time to crawl back in bed.

      December 19, 2012

  • Cary B

I'll go ahead and share a recipe now.
    1. Grab Spam packet.
    2. Tear open.
    3. Eat.
    4. Enjoy backcountry gourmet.

I'm a gear hoarder. Don't let me leave with more gear. Unless it's a stove. Or a hammock. Seriously. Bring your stoves. I'll take them. I don't need help. I need all 30 of them. More! Give me more! I think my cold medicine is working. Anyone have stoves they don't want? Anyone?

That was a fast sign up Mike - next time, I'll mention the food part first! <g> Looking forward to seeing you there!
