Annual Christmas Campout

Save the date!
This is a chapter tradition.  Hiking, great food, fun presents, and a roaring bonfire.
Great way to get in the Holiday mood!

We have the Landing Group campground reserved for the weekend.
You can come campout Friday night and/or Saturday.  You can come just for Saturday.  Let's aim for 6pm for dinner on Saturday. There is a covered pavilion with electrical outlets and a large grill for cooking. There is not a refrigerator or ice. You'll need to bring your own pan or pot.  Crock pots do well here.
Please post what you are going to bring.  We need plates and utensils, too.  BYOB.  Sunday morning breakfast be on your own, but usually there is enough to share.  We'll need wood for the campfire, so if you bring a few pieces, please do so.

Finally - we do a gift swap after dinner.  This is great fun!  Bring a gift of $20 value or less of any type of outdoor theme.  Make sure your gift is wrapped.

The campground is great for tent camping and a few RVs.  We will be right on Ocean Pond, so bring your kayak, too. There are flush toilets and running water.

Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash.

Please fill out our spreadsheet to help with planning.

Happy Holidays!

I wish to thank everyone for a wonderful day.Me and Rango had a blast. I had to rush to the hospital during present exchange though due to my wife Rita having pneumonia.I was with her last night and her chest is clearing up.She should be coming home in a few days.

She told me when she received the flowers from some people that she never met, that the kindness brought tears. She wanted me to deeply thank all of you and she knows the her husband is in good company. She cant wait to get home and see the pics. It is rare to find so many people of such caliber in one camp site.

Rango also sends his thanks and cant wait till hes back in your company.

    gratefully,
    Eugene

Eugene's wife has pneumonia and has been taken to the hospital in Gainsville where they are giving her treatments. Can we get a collection together for flowers?

It's very seldom in my life that I've found a group of people where I felt like part of a family. This weekend was awesome and I had a great time.

Yet another awesome Trailblazers event. We had a mix of old and new members and more food than you should shake a stick at. The campfire camaraderie was second to none.

College football fans - the SEC game starts at 4pm. Does anyone want to listen? Reception can be iffy out there depending on the radio.

      Are the Aggies playing? :)

    November 29, 2012

  • Janie

Don't think I am going to have any room left to bring firewood so all that can please bring some. We go through a lot at this event.

    November 29, 2012

    • Cary B

I'll bring as much as I can.

      November 29, 2012

  • Kevin & G.

I put as much firewood into the truck as I could and still have room for my stuff. Its a fair amount but not enough for the weekend. I also thru in a roll of large trash bags. Gloria and I should be there around 3:00 Friday.

    November 29, 2012

  • Mike H.

OK I'm going to ask a stupid question; someone said the map wasn't right and looking at it the camp ground is not really shown that well and doesn't appear to be right on the pond as stated in the description above. I've never been to the group camp ground so I'm wondering if I get directions using the existing map will they be correct?

    November 29, 2012

    • Janie

From Jax on HWY 90 go past the Olustee entrance and past 250A (approx 1 mile) then turn right at the light (store is on th SW corner) go straight ahead and look for The Landing sign and dirt road on the right before you get into the picnic boat ramp area. Turn right on the dirt road and follow it for a short while then turn left and follow through a gate into the Group Camp. I will put out Florida Trail signs on Friday.

      November 29, 2012

    • Mike H.

      Thanks Janie, see y'all there.

      November 29, 2012

  • Mary Alice W.

Sorry guys. I have been mentally and electronically compromised lately! Anyway, I have surge protector with extra plugs. Also, I will look over the spreadsheet and plan food.

    November 29, 2012

  • Janie

If any of you have an extra surge protector with several plug sockets we will need this as there is only one area at the pavilion to plug up to.

    November 29, 2012

  • Janie

Don't forget your swap gift! We always have a great time with this.

    November 29, 2012

  • Leslie

We haven't been able to organize ourselves enough to schedule a hike on Saturday, but there is plenty of Florida National Scenic Trail around to hike on your own. An easy walk is to start at the Battlefield and just follow the blazes. From The Landing Campground, you can walk over to the Osceola Picnic area. Lots of forest roads if you have a map of Osceola National Forest. One of members is planning a long hike on Sunday - details tbd soon.

    November 28, 2012

    • Leslie

      That's an idea

      November 28, 2012

    • Janie

With it being hunting season maybe we could do like we did last year and just hike around the ocean pond area to the boat ramp. We still need to blaze to the Ocean Pond campground too.

      November 29, 2012

  • John "Popski" R.

Denise, no fee, its a group campsite, just bring your camping gear.

    November 28, 2012

I am new to this group, who do I pay for camping and how much is it?

    November 28, 2012

Looking forward to seeing everyone again this weekend. I am still not sure what to bring. I was thinking about hot coco, chips and dip. Probably wont bring my Poodle(he had a great time at the last hike) this time, my cousin is riding with me and the car may be full. See you all Saturday.

    November 28, 2012

  • Cary B

If we need another grill I can bring one.

    November 28, 2012

  • Barbara

I'm bringing a 30 cup electric coffee percolator, coffee, creamer, sugar, etc.
Also, have a large coffee kettle to place on fire, I'll bring it too.

    November 28, 2012

  • John "Popski" R.

    I'll bring a drip pot.

    November 28, 2012

      November 28, 2012

  • Janie

I have coffee cups, plates, napkins and plasticwear left from the conference.

    November 27, 2012

  • Cary B

I may still have trash bags, plates, etc from my last hammock hang. Let me see what's in the garage.

    November 27, 2012

  • Leslie

Please update the spreadsheet with what dish you are going to bring.
We'll need garbage bags(and will somebody bring extra toilet paper), too. Jo and I will be there sometime Saturday. Let us know if you want to spend the night but need equipment.

    November 27, 2012

  • Cary B

If the mailman does his job I should have a new hammock for the weekend!

I know and this weekend is going to be in the 70s day and 50s night going to be beautiful. Might not have to light the pavilion on fire to stay warm?

Mike - I knew you were our kind of guy!

      November 27, 2012

    November 26, 2012

  • Mike H.

If anyone would like to spend the night but doesn't have equipment I have an extra tent, large inflatable mattress and a clean sleeping bag. Just let me know in advance, I plan on being there Friday afternoon.

    November 26, 2012

  • John "Popski" R.

Ginny & I will be there Saturday afternoon with roast beef I'll do on my gas grill like last year and a tossed salad & some salad dressing. and some fire wood. And a canoe too :)

    November 21, 2012

  • Janie

A few of us will be going out on Friday evening so if you want to come the gate should be open by noon or shortly after.

    November 20, 2012

    • JAMES

Thanks Janie, I will be there around 1pm

      November 20, 2012

  • Ingrid

Have no tent and no kayak. I might like to come just for the Saturday, is that ok?

    November 19, 2012

    • Cary B

There's no requirement to camp. I'm sure a number of people will just be there for the day.

      November 19, 2012
