Annual Christmas Campout Weekend

On your own activities and meals Friday.- Saturday afternoon.

Dinner will be at 6pm Saturday evening, so come in plenty of time to get your food set up and enjoy the campfire. Come for the day or the weekend.  Afterwards, we will have our gift exchange following the official regulations as stated by below.

"I nominate Aaron as the Grand Master of the Gift Exchange / & Thievery.  Same rules as in the past.  Those who bring a gift may pick a gift by lottery.  Gifts about $20.00 range/value?  #1 ticket holder goes first and last.  Gifts may be stolen two  (2) times; i.e. may have only three (3) owners in total.  And NO FONDLING of gifts before choosing."

Gifts are usually of the outdoor type, but food, wine, a new mower, are good ideas....

The campsite is private and is right on Ocean Pond.  There is a covered picnic area with electricity and grills.  There are flush toilets and showers.  No electric hookups for campers.  Plenty of tent and hammock space.

Potluck breakfast on Sunday morning, so bring something to share for that if you plan to stay overnight.

Remind me in November that the reservation sheet is in my top dresser drawer.
It has the lock combination!

Couldn't said it better myself Aaron. Without FTA, I would not have the gang of nuts to call friends! It's the Trail(s) that keep us connected.

      December 7, 2013

There are 12 of us that camped last night. Beautiful looking at the lake this morning. A little warmer than I would like. I put signs out so should be easy to find. Just turn north at the light and then look for the first sign on the right.

    1 · December 7, 2013

  • Mary R.

Ok, since I can't remember .... is the Landing Group camp well marked from the entrance on 90? I cannot find my map from a few years back. Thanks.

yes. head for the ocean pond picnic area and turn right at the group landing sign.

      December 6, 2013

  • Aaron B.

Mark, you and Cindy come whenever you can. Vanesa has one Santa's helper spot locked up as she is doing the prep work.

You will have to fight John for the second spot. This is a prestigious appointment and John will not give it up without an appropriate quid pro quo.

    December 6, 2013

    • Mark P.

but would b happy to 'quid' John if i knew his flavor...

      December 6, 2013

I just called the office. She says you can start setup at 12 noon on Fridday. We need to be out of the campground "noonish" on Sunday. I'm emailing Janie, Mary Alice, and Ski the combination.
I'm only able to drive over for Saturday afternoon - see you then!

    December 5, 2013

We should be there around 2:00 Friday.

If there is a hike on Friday, what time?

    December 5, 2013

  • Mary Alice W.

With good weather forecast, I may come on Friday. Who is coming on Friday? I think John (with a tent for me to borrow) is coming Friday if someone tells us when the 'gate opens'. Are there any (loosely) planned hikes planned by anyone on Friday or Saturday? Thanks y'all.

    December 4, 2013

    • John "Popski" R.

Yes, I'll have a tent for you and I'll be there about 1:30pm ish.

      December 4, 2013

    • Mary Alice W.

I'm aiming at about 3p. I assume you found out that the gate will be open.

      December 5, 2013

  • Denise M.

I am planning on bringing a clam dip and chips, my mom is coming with me, she is going to bring a cake(she keeps changing her mind on what kind of cake).

    December 4, 2013

  • Jeff G.

I will be there starting Friday afternoon as well! Unfortunately I'll have to leave Saturday in the morning.

    December 4, 2013

  • Allen J.

Joe Gardner and I are going to get there Friday about the time the gate opens. We were going to setup and look for a hiking trail anyone that wants to go along are more than welcome to join us.
We will also bring some firewood with us along with potatoes and some veggies.

    December 4, 2013

    • Cary B

I'm iffy on Friday now. Have to see how things shake out.

      December 4, 2013

  • Joe G.

I will be there on friday too. Just need to know when the gate is going to be open

    December 4, 2013

  • Aaron B.

Kevin and Gloria, as a token of my appreciation for your getting some greens I have ordered a spiral ham from Sonny's which requires no one with expertise in carving. Because of your courtesy you are hereby relieved of your duty as carvers of the holiday ham. Thanks.

    December 3, 2013

    • Cary B

I happen to be an expert consumer of spiral ham.

      1 · December 3, 2013

Who is opening the gate on Friday? Leslie this is a reminder if you need to email the combination to me.

    December 3, 2013

  • Janie

I have plenty of kale in my garden and will bring some for whatever we can use it for.

    December 3, 2013

  • Kevin & G.

Aaron you are too kind. I feel relieved of the overwhelming
    pressure of a carver.

    December 3, 2013

  • John "Popski" R.

I'll bring fresh green beans to steam.

    December 3, 2013

  • Mike Y.

Hi, I'm a new member and planning to come on sat. morning with my dog. I plan to bring a dutch oven chili and will post on spread sheet.

    December 3, 2013

  • Aaron B.

    HELP!
In looking over the spreadsheet I see that we are a bunch of carnivores. Are there not veggie lovers in the crowd?

We need some salad, greens , raw veggies with to-die-for dressings, the kind of stuff one will not find at Taco Bell and Mickey D's. Who is going to step up and be counted?

    December 2, 2013

    • Mark P.

Cindy is a vegetarian or rather a 'pescatarian,' so we will bring a meat-less dish.

      December 3, 2013

  • Kevin & G.

Aaron....we will come through for you! After super human driving around the southeast we'll bring something on the way back from my mom's. We'll get some veggies and "to die" for dressings...whatever that is since you have such a fine palate!

    Does the cAmpground allow dogs?

    November 30, 2013

    • Leslie

As long as the dogs stay in our campground, they are fine. Once we start walking, dogs will need to be on a leash.

      December 1, 2013

  • Aaron B.

Denise, we usually serve up appetizers around five. We have chicken wings, meatballs, cheese spread and crackers. If you have an appetizer you like you could bring that or firewood is always welcome. We keep the fire going regardless of the weather.

I am with Mark. I would prefer cooler weather but no rain is good. Remember that Santa will be there everyone so do not forget the gifts for exchanges.

As Grand Master of the Dirty Santa Ceremony I hereby appoint my wife Vanesa and that indomitable spirit John as my elves for the occasion.

    December 1, 2013

We cannot ask for a better weather; according to weather.com, high 79 with 10% chance of rain; NOAA has mostly sunny with high 80 and low around 57; weatherbug.com has high 77. Did I miss any major weather web?

      November 30, 2013

  • Mary Alice W.

OK, I'll bring napkins, wine/beverage cups, plates, paper towels, garbage bags (anything else I forgot?) and a dessert/snack, cookie-brownie bars, if they aren't on the spreadsheet when I check now.
John, thanks for the tent offer. I think this is the better option than my car!!! When are you arriving? I am spending Saturday night for sure.

    November 22, 2013

    • John "Popski" R.

I'll be there Friday so let me know by Thursday if ya want me to bring a tent and sleeping mat for you too. Our friend Suzy is coming again this year and I'm bringing a tent and mat for her.
