I really enjoyed the night hike! I don't see fireflies often, it was a reminder of home! :)

It was a very enjoyable hike. Beautiful moon reflecting off the trees & shrubs; even a moment of fireflies.

Hiking at night with a great group and the beautiful moon lighting our path made for a very unique and enjoyable evening. The park is a treasure - I plan on returning! Thank you Janie for sponsoring! And thank you Bill and Mary Alice for leading (and sweeping) our group :)

Beautiful evening. Surprised at the elevation change for a Florida trail. Enjoyed the hike and the company.

Awesome park and very nice people. Thanks to Bill for leading it and yo the ranger who answered questions. He was very informative. This was my first hike in the south so I was a bit nervous about snakes. But the ranger helped me understand them better.... I'll definitely be out again!!!

Anybody considering staying out overnight at the primitive site that night?

How far is the hike & how long is the estimated duration? Thanks!

    February 19, 2013

    • Janie

The hike is approx 2 miles and could take a few hours depending on how many show.

This hike is not along a flat open trail. It is along the ravine trail in the woods. Be sure to wear closed toe shoes as there are several roots and trip hazards along the way. If the sky is clear we should be able to see well by moonlight. We will catch a shuttle to the starting point and it looks like there will be a large crowd so plan a little extra time for getting started.

Is this considered a beginner-level hike?

    February 4, 2013

    • Janie

Abby, this hike is fairly easy except that it is at night and on the trail through the woods - not on a road or cleared flat trail. We have all types of hikers show up for this from very young and have even had some in their 80's. Just be sure to wear enclosed hiking shoes as there are roots along the way. If the moon is bright enough it will seem like you are hiking by daylight.

Sorry, going to have to miss this one. Hope everyone has fun!

This hike is open to the public as well so there could be quite a few hikers for this. Come early to get signed in. We will shuttle the hikers to the trailhead.
