Yes, you can hike in Florida! The North Florida Trailblazers, a chapter of the Florida Trail Association, can show you where and how.
I first joined the Florida Trail Association (FTA) when I lived in Pensacola in the 1990s and I've been a member ever since.
The FTA is a great organization and provides many opportunities to hike in Florida. I encourage all Meetup members to log onto www.floridatrail.org and browse around the state website. There is lots of information about camping/hiking/backpacking.
Have hiked sections of the Florida Trail in the north part of the state, but not much down south. Am familiar with the AT in western North Carolina.
My first backpack trip was with the Pensacola chapter on Cumberland Island. I'm only a 2-nighter, but one of these days I want to do 5 days. Florida Trail folks are very willing to talk about their backpacking tips and gadgets.
This group is for anyone who is interested in learning more about hiking and protecting hiking in Florida. No experience is necessary, and all are welcome. See our website for more info.

Hi Leslie, I am told that the plural of Y'all is All of Y'all - so I hope to meet All Y'all on the trail real soon .
Ken
Hi Leslie, I love to hike but haven't hiked a too much since I was a teenager so i guess you can call me a beginner hiker. I'm not sure what kind of gear etc.. I will need. I love the outdoors and want to meet people to hike with.
Thanks for the invite Leslie, I did want to go on this hike but I had already RSVP'd for a baby shower that day. I did sign up for the hike at Stokes Landing on the 19th.
Thanks Lelslie,
I look forward to hiking with everyone.
Dave
Thanks for the greeting, Leslie. I am looking forward to meeting everyone, although I think it will not be until October. Happy hiking.
Hi Leslie,
Check your email: I want to setup another impromptu hike for next weekend.
Thanks! Bill
Leslie,
I'd like to setup a couple of "Impromptu" hikes.
First is for "Big Shoals" the weekend of April 23rd.
Second is for Anderson Springs Loop (suwanee river area) the weekend of May 7th.
More details to follow.
What do we have to do to get this setup? You can email my privately at [masked]
Thanks!
Bill
Leslie, Kevin has posted some pics of our trip. F.Y.I.
Deb did an inventory today and me and a friend of mine joined her. We parked one car at West Tower and drove the second car to Turkey Run where she began the inventory. It was a blast! 6.5 miles. She documented what needed to be fixed and I look forward to helping fix up and maintain our portion of the trail. By the way, the picture I posted was of my wife, my daughter, and my wife's brother!!! I'll fix that as soon as I figure this thing out!
Thank you so much! I look forward to joining everyone!
