Spring is a lovely time to visit the Holden Arboretum ~ The wild flowers are up and trees are starting to blossom!
Since this is the weekend of their annual plant sale, admission is discounted, and those who are interested can browse after the hike for plants and talk to the experts about ways to enhance home landscaping.
Featured at the sale will be woody plants, perennials, annuals, herbs, container plants, garden accessories and wood crafts, plus Holden nursery propagated wildflower varieties and homemade jellies and jams.
GATE ADMISSION: $3.00
Dress for the weather; be prepared for creek crossings and mud.
Meet us at 10 in front of the left entrance to Corning Center, where the benches are.
We will hike the Old Valley Trail and the Pierson Creek Loop. This is not an extreme hike, but I would not rate it as easy, either! It will involve some stairs (33+174+17+12+96 to be exact), 2 creek crossings and lots of ups and downs. Holden classifies both trails as "rugged."
The entire distance covered will be around 5 miles. I plan to take it at a moderate pace, allowing time to enjoy the scenery and take pictures... probably about a 2-hour hike.
Those who do not wish to hike the distance are free to simply wander the grounds : )
