Canal Bike Ride II

This is a repeat of a ride we had last month. There are 2 options.

The first part will be a relaxed ride (averaging 10-14 m.p.h.) on the paved all-purpose trail that goes along the Ohio & Erie canal north of Rockside Road up to Harvard Road. The only steep "hills" are the two bridges that take us over Grainger and Warner Roads.

When we reach Harvard Road, those who wish can turn around and retrace the route back to the parking lot. (Total distance: about 12 miles.)

Those who would like to go further can ride out of the park and follow a route through Steelyard Commons and into Tremont, where they can decide on a place to stop for food or beverages. The round trip distance for this ride will be about 19 miles.

If you plan to ride on the Tremont extension, please have a bike light. I can't guarantee we will be back to our cars before dark.

The lock 39 trailhead parking lot is located on the south side of Rockside Road, just west of Canal Road. Click on Lock 39 above for mileage and directions.

Here's a tip: To avoid horrific rush hour traffic on I-271 or 480, click on Lock 39 Trailhead and "get directions," then click "show options" and check the Avoid highways box. The mileage will be longer, but less frustrating.

If you can't make it to Rockside Rd. in time, you could meet us at 7:00 at the Harvard Ave. trailhead, 991 Harvard Ave 44105:
You would miss the prettiest part of the ride, but at least you could ride the part to Tremont.
