Ride the Maple Highlands Trail

  • Jul 9, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Let's ride the southern portion of the Maple Highlands Trail out of Chardon.

Total miles: 16.5.

Meet in the parking lot of Bass Lake Inn. We'll cross the street to the trail, and ride for 8.2 nice flat miles through woodlands, along wetlands and farm fields (with 4 road crossings) until we reach Headwaters Park in Claridon.

After taking a break by East Branch Reservoir, we will head back to Chardon, where we can stop for eats or a drink at the Bass Lake Taverne before heading home.

Great ride - sorry I could not hang around but with the time I get up and by the time we got back it was no longer doable for me. We need to do some more of these weekday east side rides.

Dick, another option would be to ride over to the ice cream place that's a block from Mt. Run Station. We'd have more time for a picnic on a weekend...

Lynda, I'm sure we could always fit an ice cream stop in instead. Good idea.

The Maple Trail is a nice trail to bike on. Dodged the storm on the way back! If that ride was today.... :-o

Yes, I can't imagine riding in tonight's storm.

Warm, cool, sun, clouds, raindrops, sun again with huge raindrops, all in one hour. Hello NE Ohio.

    Awesome ride!
I ended up with 65 miles on the day... but the best miles were the sixteen with Sherry!

Great to see everyone again... Catch you all on the next one! :-)

That's awesome, Brian. Sorry you couldn't join as at the Brew Works.

We are meeting in the lot at Bass Lake Tavern, right?

Please don't park at a local business! Please meet at the official bike trail parking lot on S. Hambden (Chardon-Windsor Rd. ) located at Mountain Run Station. Parking for 90 cars, rest room, pavillion. No water.

Entrance to the lot is near the base of the cell tower.

You can move your cars to the restaurant after the ride. Thanks!

      Don't mention it.

I don't know about weekends, but I have done this on weekdays for several years, on occasion, by parking in their lot, riding then eating at Bass Lake at the end, and they have a ton of parking. Just park towards the back so you are not tying up spaces near the front door.

Per Bass Lake's web site, half price night on selected bottles of wine.

I'm in since it does state that the trail is flat. Hills and I just won't get along at this time.

    • Lynda

Being a former railroad track, it is definitely flat : )

      June 23, 2013

    • Mark L

I went on it today and it is flat as you can expect from any trail. Anyone can ride this.
