See Cleveland's Historic Theater District. Tour guides will escort us through the theaters, backstage, and behind the scenes, telling the history, grandeur, decline and rebirth of Playhouse Square. The tour runs ninety minutes to two hours, begins with a brief video.
Playhouse Square is the country's largest performing arts district outside of New York City, and the largest theatre restoration project in the world. Over a million people attend performances each year in nine performance halls. The theaters were built in the 1920s, and extensive renovation began in the 1970s.
Playhouse Square staff tell me this is the best date to tour over the next several months, with backstage access to the most theaters.
Ask for the meetup group when you arrive. Parking is available in many lots, and street meters are free on Saturdays, but be careful to follow signs.
We will tour the theaters in two groups, one leaving 11:00 AM, the next leaving about 11:20 AM. You must be on time, if late for the 11:20 you may not be given a tour.
