Headlands Beach Fest!

SAVE THE DATE!!

Come on out to Ohio's north coast to celebrate the state's longest swimming beach! This free, family-friendly outdoor celebration will incorporate the arts with the elements of wind, water and sand to create an interactive event. Check it out here: http://cityofmentor.com/visit/headlands-beachfest/

Imagine a mile long, natural, sand beach filled with colorful flying kites, amazing sand sculptures, strolling performers, sailing races, kayaking & paddleboarding, arts vendors, children's crafts, beach music and steel drum bands, food and more. This inaugural event is hosted by the City of Mentor and Headlands Beach State Park.

We'll meet at the far end of the P-19 parking area (turn LEFT after entering the park and drive to the end.) and walk the one-mile beach to partake of all the fun.

Wear your beach attire, of course, including sandals or flipflops for your feet. And don't forget to bring sunglasses, sunscreen and drinking water!

Also, bring snacks if you wish; I plan to sample some food from the local vendors :-)

~If there is enough interest, we might escape from the crowds by taking a hike on the Zimmerman (part of the Buckeye) Trail: about 4 miles out and back. If you would like to do this, bring your hiking shoes along.

Another event got rained on : ( Quite a few people were there for the beachfest, and six of us from this group managed to enjoy ourselves, but the cloudy, drizzly sky dampened our enthusiasm (pun intended).

From the Web site http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/headlandsbeach from today..."The main entrance to the park is now open. Thank you for your patience!"

    July 26, 2013

    • Lynda

Thanks, Dave. It is open, but today the west half of the parking lots are closed--I think to make cleanup easier. If that side is still closed tomorrow, we will meet at P-1 instead of P-19.

OK...More info on this web site http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/headlandsbeach
according to the web site "Headlands is open to visitors. Please use the east entrance to the park. Lots 1-6 are open with access to the beach."
There is an "east entrance" who knew? lol

    July 25, 2013

    • Victor

I'm from Mentor and I didn't know there was an east entrance. Is it the road right next to the main entrance?

      July 25, 2013

    • Lynda

I think that's an entrance for fishermen (and others in the know ; ), open 24 hrs.

      July 25, 2013

  • Dave R.

The answer from the park..."Yes, we are working hard to clean up the area and will be ready for this great event!"

Thanks for checking up on this, Dave! I didn't know about it, and really appreciate your info. I'm going there tomorrow, so should find out the skinny on this ;-)

      July 25, 2013

OK I work in Mentor so at lunch time I drove over to see where the "east entrance" is...when you get to the road closed sign take a right and then a left and follow that around to the east entrance...it's marked fishing access, Parking lots 1-5 are the only ones open as of today....I could not see a reason for the other parking areas being closed? So I suspect everything will be open in time for the HEADLANDS BEACHFEST I did post a question to the parks services on the web site...asking if they plan on opening everything back up for Saturday. Will let you know if they reply.

Just saw this. Thanks for the info!

      July 25, 2013

The entrance to the park was closed last night (Wednesday July 24) due to high water? Lets hope its open by Saturday.
