We all know that many of our hikes, esp the Catskills and beyond, require a considerable amount of driving and mileage. And compound it with our frequent trips to these places, our hikes could easily put monetary impact to all of us. (Try to calculate the cost for each us if we drive to the hiking area separately). That's the reason why we carpool. Not only that it's fun to spend the 2-3 hours of commute with the other hikers, it makes practical sense because we all can share the stress/cost of the commute.
If we want to be able to do more hikes to the Catskills and go to far beautiful places such as the Adirondacks, Whites and beyond, then we need to work out a fair setup so we can carpool and reduce the stress and cost of the commute. I hope that by setting some clear guidelines on this, more will get to volunteer to drive. Thank you.
