Gold Country Orienteers (GCO) is an orienteering club based in the Sacramento area of Northern California.

What is Orienteering? It is a world-wide sport. It consists of finding your way to specific points on a course in a park or similar place, walking or running and using a special detailed map and a compass.

It's the perfect sport—exercising both the mind and the body. It's great for all ages!

It can be:

  • A lovely stroll, with children and pets,
  • A fitness hike,
  • A way to learn how to read a map and use a compass
  • Or a competitive race.

 Sunday November 18th .. Meetup at 915am

Mississippi Bar, on the north shore of Lake Natoma, has some of our most varied terrain: everything from the infamous American River dredging rock piles to oak-studded hills with gorgeous views.

The weather should be cool, but of course a little rain is always possible! Plan to join us for some pre-Thanksgiving exercise!

Course setter Dan Rathbun is planning beginner, intermediate and advanced courses to challenge and entertain you. More details will be provided closer to the date.

Here are details about Mississippi Bar and directions to get there.
