Monthly NoCOUG Beer and Pizza Nite

Big Data got you confused? Let NoCOUG’s resident Oracle Ace Director and OakTable member Gwen Shapira sort it out for you while you enjoy beer and pizza provided by our gracious host Cloudera.

According to IBM, big data spans three dimensions: Volume, Velocity, and Variety.

Volume: Enterprises are awash with ever-growing data of all types, easily amassing terabytes—even petabytes—of information.

Velocity: Sometimes 2 minutes is too late. For time-sensitive processes such as catching fraud, big data must be used as it streams into your enterprise in order to maximize its value.

Variety: Big data is any type of datastructured and unstructuredsuch as text, sensor data, audio, video, click streams, log files, and more. New insights are found when analyzing these data types together.

It was difficult to understand her because of her accent, maybe she should have used a microphone.

Pizza good. Didn't have beer, but had Corona and I like that. Gwen was very informative on Big Data and Hadoop. I learned a few things, and so I enjoyed the experience.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
