Kayak Lake Redding

Why drive long distances when there's a beautiful lake here in town: Lake Redding. The waters are cold, but they're calm. The current is present but easily overcome by an average paddler.  This could be a chance to warm up our paddling muscles as the kayaking season approaches. We'll paddle upstream until we decide to float back down to the boat ramp.  Let's make this a leisurely paddle for all levels. We're here to get out, wet the equipment, enjoy the views and have fun.

Lunch together afterwards at the nearby Lake Redding Park.

You must have a personal flotation device with a whistle.... and a kayak.  No kayak will be available from me for rent, but if you don't have one, you can rent one or ask if any member has an extra kayak that they'd be willing to lend you.

I was in Rdding for the weekend and I signed up late for this group paddle. They were welcoming to this stranger and they pointed out a lot of wildlife that I did not think to look for

It was a very pleasant 1-1/2 hour float up the lake. Thanks, Lisa, for preparing and sharing extra food for lunch. I'll do the same next time.

Is this a good first kayak for someone? I have a friend that is interested and we have Hobie pedal kayaks that also use paddles. Thanks.

If you haven't kayaked before, you should pass on this one and learn in a lake first. Lake Redding has a slight current to it making it a little less forgiving of mistakes. I will schedule more kayaking events on other lakes in the future. See you then.

I've made a few clarifications to the event description above. If this affects your RSVP, please change it accordingly. I hope to see you there.

I kayaked the lake today heading upstream without much difficulty. I met a few other kayakers out there having fun, too. When I tired, I let the current drift me back to the boat ramp. It was warm but pleasant. It should be nice for this event, but rain or strong winds, of course, would cancel it.

Pete & I canoed there two weeks ago in the evening, it was wonderful. I agree with your weather wisdom.
