PLEASE NOTE DAY CHANGE (rain predicted for the day this walk was first scheduled for.)
A trek into the great Northern Territory known as 'the Bronx'.
Did you know that over one quarter of the Bronx is actually parkland? Or that Van Cortlandt Park is the fourth largest park in NYC? (Pelham Bay Park, also in the Bronx, is #1)
Join us for a stroll through the untamed northern wilderness known as 'the Bronx'.
A late Fall walk through Van Cortlandt Park.
Meet at 11:30AM at the end of the 1 train - 242nd St. Meet on the east side of Broadway, at the bottom of the northern-most staircase. (I'll be in the orange hat)
We'll head into the park for a walk on the northern nature trail. It will be about a 3 mile round trip hike, ending back at the 1 train. It's an easy walk on trails (some rocks and sand here and there) and paved roads with a few low hills. This will be a 2 1/2 to 3 hour walk.Along the way you'll hear about the Bronx buffalo and get to see the Bronx Stonehenge.
Dress appropriately for the weather.
We will walk in snow.
$3 fee to cover organizing costs.
