Northern Nevada Preppers HAM Radio Net - On The Air Meeting

For all the newly licensed amateur radio operators out there, Congratulations!!!

We are very excited to announce the Northern Nevada Prepper's Group Radio Net. We have gained approval from the Wide Area Data Group ( to use their UHF/VHF repeaters that serve our area.

This net will be held each Wednesday evening at 2000 hours local time (8:00pm) and this is a reoccurring event for our group.

The Northern Nevada Prepper’s Group Radio Net is provided to help you become familiar with your radio equipment or test out new equipment by participating in our on the air discussions of family emergency preparedness, general prepper topics and radio use and theory. You will get to check in with Northern Nevada Preppers Group Members and other HAM radio operators in the Northern Nevada Area. This HAM net will help you learn how to communicate in times of emergency when conventional communications are not working. We are a family oriented group who’s goal is to share the skills necessary to help you and your family prepare for disasters, either man made or natural and to promote a self-reliant lifestyle.

We will be using the linked repeater system maintained by the Wide Area Data Group on the following frequencies:

Freq. PL Offset Location
[masked] + Virginia Peak
[masked] + Mt Rose
[masked] + Peavine Peak
[masked] + Peavine Peak
[masked] + Lobdelle Peak

This linked system covers the Reno, Sparks, Carson, Carson Valley, Dayton, Fallon, Yerington, Tahoe, Truckee, and Sacramento Areas.

If you need help setting up your radio or have any questions about participating, please email Ken Juenke, K7KBJ using [masked] or bring your radio to any of our future meetings.

For those of you who are not yet licensed amateur radio operators, you can listen in on the net by using the following link in your favorite web browser:

Then, click on the Mt Rose Audio Feed link.
Everyone is welcome to listen in so please log in and tune in.

At our Fall camping event to be held on October 26th & 27th we will be doing many radio demos and hands on instruction so be sure to participate.

We are very fortunate and excited to have this opportunity to serve the Northern Nevada Prepper community and we sincerely thank the Wide Area Data Group for the incredibly generous use of their repeater system.

I thought of wrapping the tanks for next time and I will try that out but I may just move them into the tent so the ambient temperature avoids the issue altogether. The idea was to run them and test out how that equipment would hold up in a longterm bug out situation during the worse part of winter. They worked but they aren't going to work being exposed to the elements in our high desert winters.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
