NVCT is partnering with the Fairfax Master Naturalists (FMN) to hold monthly invasive removals at the Salona property in McLean. The property currently has a conservation easement enforced by NVCT. It is also undergoing the park planning process with the FCPA. FMN decided to take on the invasive threat on-site, and has organized a series of events that run from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm.
The event is being led by Alan Ford, a Fairfax Master Naturalist and President of the Virginia Native Plant Society. He will be on hand to provide training and guidance to all volunteers. You do not need experience to participate, and all ages are welcome. If you have any questions about the event, please contact Alan at: [masked], or[masked]-5291. If the weather is below freezing or if there is active precipitation (rain or snow), consider the event cancelled.
To learn more about the Salona property, check out the park planning website. The site is infested with many non native plants, including: stilt grass, japanese honeysuckle, english ivy, privet, and many others. It needs a lot of help, so I hope you'll join us!
