Community Meeting for Bonnie the Deer

For more than eight years neighbors in Alexandria, Virginia were privileged to share their community with a doe they affectionately named Bonnie. Some enjoyed visiting her and feeding her. One man, who would coast down the road on a scooter as part of his commute, enjoyed Bonnie's company as she ran along beside him some mornings.

Bonnie lived in an ever shrinking patch of land between 395 and Van Dorn in Alexandria, VA. Residents realized that a plan to "develop" her home would put Bonnie in grave danger. They were working to rescue her, but on April 4th, 2014, one night before a planned rescue, Bonnie met the same fate as her brother and mother had years before her; she was hit and killed by a driver. Her human friends are heart-broken, but rather than surrender quietly, they want to take action to prevent this happening to other deer in the future. On Saturday, April 12, 2014, join Bonnie's human friends to share stories of Bonnie and plan to protect deer from now on.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
