CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER -- Thomas Paine: Human Rights and Common Sense

When: Sunday, January 31,[masked]:00 AM

Green Hedges School
225 Nutley St NW Vienna
Vienna, VA 22180

The following presentation will be rescheduled for another date.

This year is the 200th anniversary of the death of Thomas Paine. His ideas have inspired a broad range of political activists, from right to left. An English immigrant in 1774 to America, he became a strong advocate of independence, his "Common Sense" inspiring many to align themselves with the revolutionaries. Yet when he died in 1809, only six people attended his funeral. Why? Largely because of his criticisms of dictators and religious institutions, and his radical ideas on economic and civil rights.
