Welcome to the online home of Northern Virginia Kayak and Outdoors. Our mission is to create a small community of local paddlers, hikers, cyclists, and climbers. We want to emphasize the social pleasures that come from each others' company while we also get some healthy exercise and fresh air.

 

The paddling season will be upon us soon. We have a few cold-water paddles on the schedule and we will also continue to bike, hike, and rock climb. We are not a group for the inactive, but we are a group that welcomes people who are other wise experienced but are interested in trying new things.

 

Our core mission statement: We are not a "speed" or "hardcore" group but rather a group of people who enjoy taking their time getting from Point A to Point B so that nature may be enjoyed without too much hurry, allowing time to soak up the sights and sounds. Let's get out, enjoy, and have a good time. This is really what it's all about.

 

In order to join us you must post a clear picture of yourself in your profile and answer the profile questions. The photo with a visible face helps build a sense of community, not to mention is a VERY important safety factor. You must post a picture that clearly shows your face (not your dog or flowers, but you and you alone without a group of people where we cannot tell which person is in fact you). In the case of a missing hiker or paddler this should be self-explanatory!

 

Along with the standard disclaimer-type stuff below we want to remind people that the whole reason we do this is for fun, the pleasure of being outdoors and the pleasure of good company. So please, if you have ever been described as a party pooper, pain in the neck, or other unpleasant p-word pass us by. "Life is too short to drink bad wine."
