Cherry Blossom Festival

What is spring in DC without seeing the cherry blossoms? I have gone every year to see them and had so much fun. There are a number of different events we can go to depending on what people want. I highly recommend the paddle boats in the basin as long as you don't fall in the water. We could go to a restaurant or have a picnic (picnic may be better if the weather is good). Also there is a concert we can go to (http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/2014/01/28/winners-of-sing-into-spring-competition-announced/) or they usually have a parade if anyone is interested. There is a lot more, so check out the website and let me know if there is something else you think would be good: http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/. The festival goes from March 20, 2014 to April 13, 2014 (despite what it says below because Meet Up doesn't like events longer than 2 weeks). When we get closer to the spring, they will post on the website the "peak" day for when the blossoms will look their best. Maybe we can decide when to go based on that.

Hey Everyone! Tomorrow is supposed to be in the low 70s and gorgeous. Perfect for seeing DC. We are meeting at the entrance of the Vienna metro at 12:30pm. We'll metro up to DC. Once there, there are a lot of options. Obviously, the views are incredible, but there is also a Japanese Street Festival that is so much fun (http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/2013/12/11/sakura-matsuri-japanese-street-festival/) and the paddle boats are always a favorite. Also, if you want to bring frisbees, footballs, or whatever, the national lawn is so big and great to hang out in. Just make sure you put it in a backpack, so it's easy to carry around.

If anyone needs to contact me, feel free to call at[masked]-6921.

    Can't wait to see y'all!

I could do 2ish. I have an orientation from[masked] for the dc film fest, so 2ish would be perfect.

I'm not sure I can make the cherry blossom fest during the day, but I'll be in DC that evening for an indie rock show at the 9:30 Club if anyone is interested. I'll go ahead and cross-post the event.

Last night a friend who was just in DC told me that the flowers had not bloomed yet, so I think if we want the great views we may want to push it back one more week to April 12th. Would that work better for everyone's schedules?

Alright Kids! Peak bloom date is April 4th. I would recommend we go on April 5th. Does that work for everyone?

I have to be back home around 5:00pm or so for an event, but I'm free to go maybe late morning to afternoon?

I'd be good to go for the morning, have to work at least half a day.

I did brunch here last year before going to the blossoms, and it was pretty sweet (plus bottomless champagne/mimosas)! http://bbgwdc.com/

    Just a suggestion, though!
