Summer(and early fall) Camping Trips

  • Just wondering how many folks might have an interest in getting together this coming summer for some camping trips. I am thinking about Acadia National Park and maybe Nickerson on the cape too.

I'd like to get an idea of when folks could go if they have an interest because these book up fast and we may have to reserve sites soon. Everyone will have to reserve their own site please.

Carol and Polly like the idea of Acadia NP and Carol has suggested September as a time to go. I'll have to check to see when the fall semester begins before committing to a specific date but want to put this out as a posting to see how much interest there might be first. If anyone has been to Acadia and can give me some pointers, I would also love that. I'm wondering if there are shelters or cabins out on the trails.

Another possible option: Group camping sites for 15 people are available to reserve and the cost is $50 per night per group site so not too bad if split between 15 people. if we have more than 15 people interested, we may be able to get two sites possibly.....will have to call for more information once we see how much interest there is.

Love Acadia but also would consider White Mountains cabins like Bretton Woods, etc.

Hey All.....I posted this thinking I'd get to go yet things are not going well right now so I'll have to catch up with you next summer or early fall for this Acadia camping trip idea. I'm glad there is so much interest and hope all do go and enjoy.

Would love to go camping with cabins (have only camped in a tent 1) but 5 1/2 hours is really far even if there was car pooling. Will keep an eye on what actually occurs.

It's about a 5 1/2 hr drive for me. When we go we rent cabins and share the cost....I would love to go this September, best time when kids are back to school.

I thought I'd attach a link of a campground on Mount Desert Island that offers camping, cabins, free showers, heated pool, and open into September. It's located right near the ocean...

I'm in! I do a lot of camping and this group already sounds fun. I also love to cook and the hiking is great up there. We will have a blast after labour day. The weather is so nice in Maine this time of the year. Anything I can do to help coordinate Cheryl please let me know.

I might be able to make either. I've camped in Nickerson and on the southwest part of Acadia. As the former member stated, Nickerson can get really crowded if you don't reserve a good spot early.

Totally interested in joining you. I do what I call "luxury tenting": Big tent, big air mattress, love to cook outside with friends. Enjoy my hot shower and facilities....but can be totally happy to make do with less! Let me know if I can help out in any way.

Lived in Maine most of my life. ( We won't say how long that is ) and have not been to Bar Harbor yet. One of those " someday " things. Today is the day. Let me know when.

I'd like to do more backpack camping or kayak camping, not much for car camping.

    Hi Cheryl,

It depends on what kind of site you want. The rates are posted here http://mountdesertcampground.com/rates.html

I had a good experience at Mt. Desert Campground on a trip with the NEO40 Hiking Group. It's a private campground geared to tent campers.

I camped in Nickerson last Summer, to get best sites, i mean the ones far from the main entrance, like section 5 6 or 7 u have too book in advance, otherwise u r gonna be stuck in the closer once where each site is very close to another one and u feel like u r in the parking lot, it can get very crowded

  • Danielle

I have an interest in either trip - easier if you pick the dates. Summer is pretty much open for me right now.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
