How to begin a story is always challenging, especially for new authors. Some try to do it multiple times until they get it right. Some move chapters around to find a suitable beginning. The conventional wisdom is to start a story with a scene or action to grab the reader's attention and keep the reader interested to continue reading. So, how do accomplished authors do it? The only way to find out is to look at some samples.
Pick your favorite author(s) and bring samples to show us how they started a novel, a short story or memoir. You can pick your own story if you want to demonstrate how you did it. We will spend about 45 minutes to an hour on this (depending on how many of you participate) and then continue the review of submitted stories. Continue submitting your stories for review as you normally do.
