EVENT DESCRIPTION
The Getty Museum is, in addition to being one of the premier art collections in the world, an architectural landmark. Join trip organizer Rich on a tour of the museum’s architecture led by the Getty’s docent staff. For those of you who have never been to the Getty, you’ve been missing one of the sights visitors to LA put at the very top of their lists. It’s a true world class museum.
The hillside complex with outdoor gardens, stunning architecture and commanding views of the Westside and Santa Monica Bay is completely vehicle free. Visitors park at the entrance gate off Sepulveda Blvd. and ride a tramway up to the museum complex.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Photography is permitted virtually everywhere outdoors. Indoors, no tripods or flash photography please! Photos of art objects indoors are permitted when the Getty owns the object. Objects on loan may not photographed (ask the security guards who are standing about in all the indoor galleries.) No photos are permitted of photography displays.
SCHEDULE
Our call time for the tour is at 10:50 a.m., so plan on arriving at the parking entrance no later than 10:30 to find parking and take the tram ride up. Once the tour is finished, you’ll be free to roam around and shoot more photos. The museum admission is free, but onsite parking is $15/vehicle.
CARPOOLING AND BREAKFAST
As parking at the Getty is limited, we’re looking into adding on a breakfast meeting location in the Sherman Oaks area we can carpool from. Breakfast would probably be around 8:30 a.m. I (Rich) will be arriving at the Getty right as it opens and won't be carpooling. For those of you who would like to carpool, I'd suggest meeting at Jerry's Famous Deli, 21857 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills around 8:30 a.m. You can have breakfast at one of the joints in that shopping center and then jump onto the freeway and be on your way to the Getty. Or, consider Lisa's suggestion to meet at Jinks, 14120 Ventura Blvd. Those of you who want to carpool should post an item about it and try to connect with others in the group who want to carpool. And think about kicking in a few $$$ to help the driver with the $15 parking fee at the Getty.
After we do the tour we can make our next stop the building that the Getty dedicates to photo displays. They always have some great photos on display. After that we can visit the gardens and then just wander at will in this beautiful place. I'm going to try to set us up for a tour at the Getty Villa in Malibu for August.
The tours generally take 30-45 minutes. It varies depending on the subject matter and the tour guide.

If you want to meet in the Sherman Oaks area might I suggest Jinky's for breakfast 14120 Ventura Blvd.
