Sustainable Herbal Healthcare with Iris Weaver

This series of 6 classes will help you take your healthcare into your own hands and rely less on pharmaceuticals. You will learn about how and why herbs work, the abundance and availability of plants, how and why herbalism is part of an affordable, sustainable lifestyle, and how to maximize your nutrition. You will learn how to make medicinal products and preparations, and receive delicious recipes for nutritious meals. Each class will include 1 or more samples to take home.

At the end of this course you will have a basic understanding of herbs and how to work with them for your own and your family’s health, know where to get herbs, and where to find more information. You will be an informed consumer at the store, able to find what works for you and see through the hype. By finding the right herbal remedies and/or making your own, you can save a great deal of money on your healthcare and feel more in control of your own health.

Class 1: The Basics of Herbalism and Sustainable Healthcare
Why and how herbs work, why and how herbalism can be sustainable and affordable, making healthy life choices. Learn to make an herbal tea and herbal infusion, and an herbal compress.

Class 2: Know Your Herbs and How They Work
The properties and actions of herbs. How to know your herbs by their proper names. Learn to make an herbal tincture.

Class 3: Nutrient-Dense Nutrition and Eating Your Herbs
What is nutrient density, why is it important, and how to eat in a nutrient-dense way. How to include herbs in everyday meals. Learn to make an herbal vinegar, and a poultice.

Class 4: Use What’s Around You
Uses of common weeds of backyards and gardens and uses of herbs and spices in your kitchen cupboard. Learn to make an infused oil.

Class 5: Treating Everyday Ailments
Sustainable herbal remedies for colds, flus, digestion, headaches, etc. Learn to make an herbal salve.

Class 6: Love the Skin You’re In—Herbal Skincare
Understand your skin and sustainable herbal ways to care for it. Remedies for dry skin, stings, bites, rashes, cuts, bruises, etc. Learn to make an herbal lotion.
