Sea Salt Harvesting

Alison Darnell and Heather Ahearn of Atlantic Saltworks will be the speakers for the January meeting of the Greater Newburyport Edible Garden Group.

Alison and Heather are the founders of Atlantic Saltworks, a local independent business reviving North Atlantic salt-making traditions. They will share with us some of the history of saltworks in our area and describe how they make flake finishing salt.  Atlantic Saltworks is based in Salem, with operations in Amesbury and Essex/Gloucester.

A great subject especially since I read Mark Kurlansky's salt and have been to Saltzburg's salt mines. I applaud the two women embarking on this venture. In addition, I learned how to make my own salt and their salt and salt concoctions were delicious!
