March 29th Community Log Inoculation
Where: Cooley Farm, 125 Montague Rd, Amherst, MA
When: Saturday March 29th from 9-5
This years log inoculation party for Cooley Farm! We will start the day with a tour of the farm and see what they already have going. Hundreds of logs already inoculated, many stumps inoculated this year and last and about 30 totems which hopefully will be fruiting when we are there.
After an overview of the fungal lifecycle we will talk primarily about log inoculation. We will discuss which trees to select, when to fell them, how to prepare the logs, what tools to use for inoculation, and methods of inoculation. After a demonstration of how a team of 4 can rapidly inoculate logs we will break up into groups of 4-5 and replicate this method!
Cooley Farm will be hosting a local lunch featuring their mushrooms, kimchi and produce from Simple Gifts Farm right down the road. After lunch we will continue inoculating. For the last hour of the day we will regroup for any questions and discuss ideal conditions for storing logs and fruiting them!
Mushroom Species we will work with
-Shiitake -Oyster -Lion’s Mane -Nameko
Cost: $40. Students will be able to take one inoculated log home with them and purchase any more they would like for $10. Limited to 15 participants, sign up by purchasing online or call Willie at[masked] See http://fungially.com/march-29th-community-log-inoculation/ to sign up.
