Butterfly Garden Blitz

Join us in at New Harmony Farm in Newbury for a butterfly garden workshop and installation, focusing on the Monarch butterfly. We will be helping to transfer a front yard septic leach field into a wonderful Modernist Butterfly and Beneficial Insect Garden.

As you are dividing your perennials this spring, please think of the butterfly garden, and bring along your extra:

Monarda - Bee Balm
Echinacea - coneflowers
Asclepias - swamp milkweed and or butterfly weed
Eupatorium hyssopifolium - hyssop leaved bonset
Phlox paniculata - summer phlox
Agastache - hyssop
Amsonia hubrectii - Blue Star

We will begin the day at 10 AM for the garden installation, break around Noon for lunch (BYO). At 1 PM we'll hear about butterflies from a local biologist and Farmer Erin will share information about butterfly garden design.

Just an FYI that the Herb Farmacy in Salisbury was giving away free milkweed and other Monarch plants this past weekend. Not sure how long they will be giving them out for.

Thanks Denise. It last week on Nova. Monarchs must be in the air. Great to meet you at the blitz. My lads and I will be filling in the beds and planting the rest of Angelas plant gifts. I have a few echanacia to add and my swamp milkweed will be chilled enough to plant later this week. I see some babies by my old common milk weed plants so I'll try and transplant them too.
Thanks for every body that helped on Saturday. It was fun!

    Best,

    Erin

Pretty sure I won't be making it tomorrow. If the hubs ends up NOT working, I'll try to come but I'll have the Little Man. MIGHT not go so well with him in tow...

It doesn't look to be raining on Saturday. The potluck and lectures will be indoors so they will go on rain or shine.

Wish I could but from Wakefield, takes a lot of gas. Will try for the seaweed one, can do it once in a while. This is a great group, wish I lived closer. I'd be at all of them! Thanks for organizing!

Hi. I was wondering if this will still happen if there is rain that day?

Angela is tweaking the butterfly garden design now. It will be really lovely. We are also looking for lavender and Rudebeckia if you have any to spare.

    Thanks!

Angela Palmer who is co-owner of Plant Nouveau and is a garden designer (including a stint at the National Arboretum) will be giving the lecture on the butterfly garden design following the lecture by Nancy Pau from the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on the plight of the Monarch Butterfly and what we can do to help these majestic creatures. These lectures are free as part of New Harmony's mission to deepen our community's connection to Nature and each other and to inspire earth healing actions. Please tell your friends.
