I know our meeting was 2 days ago, but I've just now had a chance to post a note. Thank you all for such an enthusiastic and interesting evening of discussion. "Rebecca" brought eveyone to the front and I really appreciated the diverse takes on the characters. Kudos to Susan R for this choice! Just started Heart of Darkness and think it's going to be another winner. See you all soon!

I certainly enjoyed tonight's meeting! We were all quite animated and had a lot of opinions to express. I was wondering if maybe Manderly was similar to Biltmore... How majestic! And of course Manderley had the sea, even better!

Sorry to cancel, but the threat of severe weather means I don't want to be out and about tonight.

I agree, Dennis. I love the saying, "Never judge a book by its movie." Haha

A great book. Hitchcock's movies is great but the book as with most movies, the book is superior to the movie version.

Just finished my audible book listening while knitting. Amazing the different perspective and memory I have of reading this as a young teenage girl.

I have to cancel--have an opportunity to go to the symphony that same evening to hear Beethoven--can't turn that down.

I'm sorry I forgot to RSVP! I enjoyed this book and I'm prepared to Facilitate. Is our meeting time still 7:30? I thought we had changed it to a bit earlier. ?

Oh, I got a message from Linda and found out it is. Now have all week to finish the last fifty pages! lol

Yes, once I braved a horrible storm to drive to book club only to find out we meet the last Tuesday in the month and NOT the 4th Tuesday, as I had thought. Won't do that again. Haha! See ya next week!

I've seen the movie but it lacked so much. For example, I really didn't get from the movie how comfortable the companion was with Maxim at Monte Carlo which made their marriage seem odd. But the book explains how she felt as though she'd known him for years which is makes the whole quicky marriage bit more understandable. The comparison of the book to the movie will add to the discussion at our meeting.

I had forgotten what an inferiority complex Mrs. De Winter had. (Sure wish we had her first name.)

Glad I'll finally make another meeting! Oh and f anyone is interested, you can watch Hitchcock's version of Rebecca here: http://oldmovietime.com/rebecca.html

I must say, the movie ending gave me more satisfaction than the book version. ;-)
