Katy Photography Meetup Raising the Bar

We recognize the importance of maintaining the free aspect of KPMG. However, this format imposes restrictions on what we can do, when it comes to events that require funding such as: 1) Competitions (ribbons, venue, prizes) 2) Hiring speakers and judges 3) Booths at local art events 4) Access to gallery space We would like to gauge support for having a new level of participation that would require a yearly membership fee of $40 to fund these kinds of events. Meetup-only (non-paying) members of the group would still be welcome to see speakers and participate in other free events (Photowalks, Foto Follies, etc.). Nothing would change for them. They would have access to competitions and portfolio reviews but would have to pay a higher entry fee than dues-paying members for competitions, portfolio reviews, and other events where the dues would subsidize the costs. Would you be interested in paying an annual membership fee to enable the creation of such events?

If offered, how many would be interested in a possibly four lesson Basic 101 photography course?

It would be offered as three or four nights in June on a night other than the scheduled Tuesday meeting. There would be no charge for the lessons. As a rough outline: 1. Defining personal photographic goals 2. Basic camera operation and technique 3. Composition 4. (optional) Putting it all together or possibly another subject, other than photoshop, chosen by the class. This is only in an exploratory phase but if there is enough interest I feel certain that some members of the club can be persuaded to contribute their time for at least one meeting. In lieu of that I will teach the course and everyone will all come out as confused about life and photography (one and the same) as I am. Choices: 1. Mildly interested, if there’s nothing good on TV 2. Somewhat Interested, don’t watch TV need free entertainment 3. Interested, yes I would like that very much 4. Hyper, please, please Just kidding—the choices are YES, I am interested and would attend, or NO absolutely not
