Meditation Practice & Support @ NSUC

All teachers agree: The key to a successful meditation practice is a regular practice. Therefore this meetup is looking for practitioners who are willing to make a dedicated effort to sit together weekly in order to fully realize the benefits of group practice. All levels and schools of thought are welcome. Meet like minded people while expanding your own personal practice in a non-competitive and supportive environment. Feel free to join us for a sitting and experience increased self awareness and inner peace by way of your journey inward.

TUESDAY TIME: Our meeting time will be 7:00pm so please arrive as close to 7:00pm as possible. We will begin our meditation at 7:15pm. This meetup should end by approximately 10:00pm.

TUESDAY LOCATION: North Shore Unitarian Church (NSUC), Fellowship Hall. (NSUC) is located in Deerfield, 29 miles north of the center of downtown Chicago. The church is located on Half Day Road (Route 22) west of Waukegan Road and east of the I-94 Tollway (about a ½ mile east of the tollway and 1 mile west of Waukegan on the north side of the street.) The church shares a driveway with 3000 Half Day Road. Look for their sign as you approach the building. Once you’ve turned into the driveway, you’ll take an immediate right to enter the church campus. The front door is in the back! Ample parking will be available at no cost. If you you need any additional help locating us, please contact me prior to the closing of RSVP's & I will provide you with my cell #.

FORMAT: We will begin with some basic yoga stretches followed by a short centering exercise, introductions and then some brief instruction before beginning our practice described as follows: We will sit in silence for two fifteen minute sessions focusing on our breath as the meditation object. We will perform one period of walking meditation between these two sessions. When we finish there will be a shared reading, time for questions, reflection and mingling for those who would like to participate.

FYI: Chairs will be available for those who prefer to use them. For those who choose to sit on the floor feel free to bring your own, meditation bench, pillow, yoga mat or zafu cushion if you prefer.

COST: A voluntary donation of $1.00 to help cover expenses would be most appreciated but is by no means expected.

If you have any questions about this particular sitting or our meetup group in general, please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to sitting in practice and sharing energy in the present moment with all who choose to attend. Namaste, Mark Z

Echoing Krishna's comment, I too found the increased number of meditation periods to be "luxurious". Thanks to everyone for their flexibility while we continue to try and develop our rythym @ NSUC. Welcome Jeff & Danielle! Glad you could join us. I found your comments very helpful Jeff & admired your courage Danielle. The first sitting is often times the hardest, so pat yourself on the back for making it all the way through. I hope we will see both of you again soon. Welcome back #1 Son! A joy to have you back in the circle with us. Always grateful to everyone for sharing their energy & insights. With a bow & a hug

That space has good energy. Sid, the Buddha, would be stoked.

I'm happy to announce that we will be meeting in Fellowship Hall this Tuesday instead of classroom #10. This will provide us with much more space & allow us to do the walking meditation inside.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
