Meditation Practice & Support @ Inner Balance

  • This location is shown only to members

All teachers agree: The key to a successful meditation practice is a regular practice. Therefore this meetup is looking for practitioners who are willing to make a dedicated effort to sit together weekly in order to fully realize the benefits of group practice. All levels and schools of thought are welcome. Meet like minded people while expanding your own personal practice in a non-competitive and supportive environment. Feel free to join us for a sitting and experience increased self awareness and inner peace by way of your journey inward.

**NOTE - NEW TIME: In 2013 we will be returning to our original meeting time of 7:00pm so please arrive as close to 7:00pm as possible. We will begin our meditation at 7:15pm. This meetup should end by approximately 9:15pm.

**NOTE - NEW LOCATION: We are located at the intersection of Pfingsten & Maria  (northwest corner). That's between Dundee & Lake Cook across from Underwriters Laboratories. If you you need additional help, please contact me prior to the closing of RSVP's & I will provide you with my cell #.

FORMAT: We will begin with some basic yoga stretches followed by a short centering exercise, introductions and then some brief instruction before beginning our practice described as follows: We will sit in silence for two fifteen minute sessions focusing on our breath as the meditation object. There will be a short break between the sessions for new practitioners to pause and readjust themselves if need be. More experienced meditators may practice all the way through both sessions without pausing if they so choose. When we finish there will be a shared reading, time for questions, reflection and mingling for those who would like to participate.

FYI: Chairs will be available for those who prefer to use them. For those who choose to sit on the floor, blankets, cushions & floorchairs are available but feel free to bring your own, meditation bench, pillow, yoga mat or zafu cushion if you prefer.

COST: A voluntary donation of $1.00 to help cover expenses would be most appreciated but is by no means expected.

If you have any questions about this particular sitting or our meetup group in general, please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to sitting in practice and sharing energy in the present moment with all who choose to attend. Namaste, Mark Z

The masters say that when we first come to practice we need conditions to be optimal but once we have been practicing for a while we must challenge our practice in order to avoid complacency. I said it before and I'll say it again, you always keep us on our toes Ernest. That is what I admire most about your practice. You challenge yourself and those around you so that together we can find some answers and avoid the complacency that the masters warn us about. A genuine honor to have you as a member of this group Ernest.

Lots of wonderful energy flowing last night! Really enjoyed the spirited post meditation discussion. I am so grateful that we were able to express our unique perspectives without fear or out of anger. When we are open to sharing in this way, we create space for growth & understanding to emerge. Special thanks to Ernest, Ryan & Still Steve for their comments & openness. Welcome Jacque, Laman & Sridevi! Thanks for making the choice to be present with us & for adding to the conversation. I hope you will all join us again soon. I feel blessed by the unconditional support that this group so graciously offers. With a bow of respect

Apropos of last nights discussion, I just read an interesting column in The Stone, a philosophy column in The New York Times: http://opinionator.bl... (apologies in advance if the link doesn't work for you; NYT limits the number of free articles available to nonsubscribers.)

Mark Z, What is the name of the book we've been reading. Since I missed the beginning, I'd like to catch up on my own. :-)

Sorry I missed it Ernest. You're not shy. It was what it was meant to be, I'm sure.

This is a great group and I enjoy the wide range of views and thoughtful comments. I know, I sometimes express views vastly different from the group but I always appreciate the respectful way we interact. I also learn from the different perspectives of the group. I guess you might say I love how we are different as much as how we come together as one to share our mindfulness practice. Mark Z, I love the way you facilitate the session. Thanks to all.

Sorry Selamu, we lock the doors at 7:15pm. Since you had not signed up for this meetup, I was not aware that you were planning to attend. So again my humble apologies.

Your response confirms it's all significant. 100% in fact.

    September 22, 2013

  • Mitch

100% of all practitioners practice. Statistics show 92.34% strive for oneness with self and to manage the duality between self and the universe. And of those who realize they have turned off thought while meditating, 100% are thinking and therefore distracted from their practice of mediation, and in the moment, are not mediating at all...:-( The sum = 0% meditate perfectly, and 100% practice for calm, inner peace. This includes his holiness the Dali Lama. That said, 73.36% of all statisticians are wrong, and undetermined percent have ever meditated. That's four significant digits. If you choose to be happy, you are and I believe that's all that really matters. What do you think Mark? Or not think, in the moment. Namaste. C u tonight!!

As a statistician, I'm appalled by this casual use of point statistics. Without confidence intervals, we have no idea if any of these statistics are significant :-)

    Laman,
Plenty of parking... Mark can fit a bus with room left over. It's ample and abundant. Look forward to meeting you.

    September 22, 2013

    • Mark Z

No worries Laman, there is more than enough parking in the lot. Glad you can make it. Looking forward to meeting you.

Wow, sounds like it was a rough night Judy. I pray that you're feeling better & that you find a longterm solution to your health issues. Very kind of you to offer your space but I think we'll end up being okay. I certainly hope you can make the circle so that we can send some healing energy your way.

  • Mark Z

Just a reminder y'all, we have a full house tomorrow with new member Laman on the waiting list so if your plans end up changing please update your status accordingly, thanks.
