Meditation Practice & Support @ Inner Balance

  • Dec 8, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

All teachers agree: The key to a successful meditation practice is a regular practice. Therefore this meetup is looking for practitioners who are willing to make a dedicated effort to sit together weekly in order to fully realize the benefits of group practice. All levels and schools of thought are welcome. Meet like minded people while expanding your own personal practice in a non-competitive and supportive environment. Feel free to join us for a sitting and experience increased self awareness and inner peace by way of your journey inward.

**SUNDAY TIME: In 2013 we will be returning to our original meeting time of 7:00pm so please arrive as close to 7:00pm as possible. We will begin our meditation at 7:15pm. This meetup should end by approximately 9:15pm.

**SUNDAY LOCATION: We are located at the intersection of Pfingsten & Maria  (northwest corner). That's between Dundee & Lake Cook across from Underwriters Laboratories. If you you need additional help, please contact me prior to the closing of RSVP's & I will provide you with my cell #.

FORMAT: We will begin with some basic yoga stretches followed by a short centering exercise, introductions and then some brief instruction before beginning our practice described as follows: We will sit in silence for two fifteen minute sessions focusing on our breath as the meditation object. There will be a short break between the sessions for new practitioners to pause and readjust themselves if need be. More experienced meditators may practice all the way through both sessions without pausing if they so choose. When we finish there will be a shared reading, time for questions, reflection and mingling for those who would like to participate.

FYI: Chairs will be available for those who prefer to use them. For those who choose to sit on the floor, blankets, cushions & floorchairs are available but feel free to bring your own, meditation bench, pillow, yoga mat or zafu cushion if you prefer.

COST: A voluntary donation of $1.00 to help cover expenses would be most appreciated but is by no means expected.

If you have any questions about this particular sitting or our meetup group in general, please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to sitting in practice and sharing energy in the present moment with all who choose to attend. Namaste, Mark Z

Thanks to everyone who braved the cold & snowy weather in order to practice. What a warm & wonderful ending to our 2013 schedule @ Inner Balance. Welcome Konrad! Glad that you decided to join us. I appreciated your willingness & determination (or stubborness ;-) to sit with us for 30 minutes in this, your first visit to our group. Most impressive. Welcome back Jola! It brought me much joy to have you back in the circle again. I hope your schedule continues to permit you to be present on Sunday's. As we close the books on our first year @ Inner balance I am tremendously grateful to all who shared their unique energy & insights. Special thanks to Ellen for the use of this peaceful space & to Donna for building the connection which brought us here. And to Claudia, Donna & Mitch for all of their hard work & logistical support throughout the year. A genuine honor to sit with y'all. Namaste.

Hi Mark and everyone, unfortunately newly fallen snow and my little car do not get along so I can't make it this evening. But I will sit tonight and think of the new group of wonderful people I've had the good fortune of connecting with (and then I will let go of those thoughts :-)). I will see all of you next week. Namaste.

I'm looking forward to this Sunday, as it might be my last meetup for 2013. I'll resume my attempts at non-failure next year. Speaking of which, this take on the golden rule by Rabbi Hillel reminds me of another practice in which I continue to fail:

"That which is unpleasant to you, do not to your neighbor. That is the whole law and the rest but it's exposition."

So many things to love about that quote, including the proper use of the apostrophized "it's". Another variation, which I also like is:

"If I am not for myself, who is for me? And if I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?"

Earlier in the year, I expressed my gratitude to Mitch for his kindness in welcoming me into your circle. I extend that gratitude now to the sangha. Thank you.
