Raising Chickens for Eggs and/or Food

  • Mar 3, 2013 · 11:00 AM

Had to change the meetup time to 11:00am due to Ramada availability. We have Ramada #12 reserved at the Rio Vista Park.

----------

Is anyone interested in learning more about chickens and what it takes to raise them for eggs and/or food?

We will be learning about the different types of chickens, how to collect their eggs, the basics of plucking and dressing, and the workings of a chicken coop.

This could be a good idea for another meet up.

    Hi All:

I use to raise 1200 chickens per year. It was great fun. Chickens are a very important part of homesteading which is nothing more than prepping in one place. Moved off the homestead 20 years ago. I miss that life style all the time.

Yes, this meetup is still on but it will be a presented handout and a Q&A with someone who raises chickens. Unfortunately, we won't be able to see the coop or any butchering this time around.

With mark loosing all of his chickens, is this meeting still on?

A mountain lion or bobcat got into the coop and killed all the 18 chickens and ducks i had remaining, so I have nothing left to show you. Last year a rattlesnake killed 18 others.

I was hoping to get an up close look at a coop and ideas to make one. Also was looking forward to learning how to kill pluck and all that good stuff. Can you do that in a park?
