ride Hall Ranch in Lyons

  • Jul 19, 2014 · 8:45 AM

Trail rating C2, T2 (one section of trail is T3).

Route will be up Bitterbrush, and then if the group's energy level is up to it, Nelson Loop.  Return will be back down Bitterbrush.  Bitterbrush starts off with a climb that includes some interesting rocky sections -  even more interesting on the way back going downhill - then some nice flowy trail.   Ride length approx 10 miles (including Nelson Loop), ride duration estimate 2-3 hours.

MEETING TIME/PLACE: We’re going to start this one a little earlier to beat the heat. Meet at the main trailhead parking lot off South St Vrain Drive at 8:45, ready to pedal 8:55.   Google Maps finds the trailhead parking lot as 31821 Colorado 7, Lyons, CO 80540.   This ride will be lead by Monte, look for his red Toyota pickup truck with silver topper (don’t look for Pat’s car, not going to be there).

APRES BIKE:   After the ride a visit to Oskar Blues, 303 Main St, Lyons, a fine place for a burger and a beer or whatever apres-ride treat sounds good to you.

CARPOOLING is encouraged.   Please arrange individually by posting on “discussions” or sending an email to individuals via Meetup.    It is not recommended to put your phone number in  “discussions” since it will be visible to anyone on the internet; better to use Meetup email for phone number exchanges.

I have high-res versions of the photos available. If you would like any, give me an e-mail address and I will send them to you. I also have the map with track and profile as an 11 x 17 PDF if you want that.

Hi Bruce - what did you use to make that 11 x 17 Trail Profile?

Glad everyone enjoyed the ride. It was fun although I could've done without the rock garden. My legs were very tired when I got home!

Great ride. Somewhat a challenge on the way up, but great fun coming down.

A little on the HOT side going up, but Mother Nature saw our suffering and granted us a reprieve for the awesome DH!

I would be very interested in car-pooling from the east side of Denver. E-mail me if you are interested. I can carry 5 persons and bikes in comfort.
