November in the garden

- Nottingham Organic Gardeners November -
Hi all,

I'm looking forward to our next gardening session at the allotment this Saturday, Whitemoor allotments, Wilkinson Street. Come and join us for a look around the garden or feel free to lend a hand with some gardening tasks. We will be preparing beds ready for next year, staking apple trees and general autumn jobs. As always there is a hot lunch available, made from produce from the garden, it's always an incentive to come down!

In your gardens, the first frosts usually arrive in November so try and complete all your autumn digging work as soon as possible. Unless you like to no-dig (come down to the allotment to see the difference between dig and no-dig beds!). The cold winter weather gradually breaks down the large clods of earth leaving your soil a finer, more crumbly texture by early spring making it easier for planting and growing. Collect fallen leaves and store in a separate compost bin. Don’t forget to order your seed catalogues now. Still time to plant over wintering onions, garlic, broad beans and winter greens

There is also something else to look forward to, our monthly meeting is coming up next week, on Tuesday 12th Nov at 7.30pm, Hotel Deux, Clumber Avenue.

Jenny and Vanessa will be coming from Peak Organics at Darley Dale to talk to us about Growing Salad crops all year round. Peak Organics is a local kitchen garden producer selling their produce at local co ops and farmers markets - have a look at their website www.peakorganics.org.uk

Also, - we'll be doing a group seed order again this year with the Chase Organics seed catalogue Orders need to be given to Barrie Ward by December 10th. See him at any meeting or post your order to him at  10, Denmark Grove, Alexandra Park, Nottingham , NG3 4JG. Let me know if you need a seed catalogue and we can bring some along to the next few meetings!

Hope to see you soon,

Beth
