Promised Land

Promised Land 15

Director: Gus Van Sant
Cast: Frances McDormand, Matt Damon
Origin: United States
Duration: 107m

An entertaining environmental activist film about the dangers of drilling for natural gas or fracking. Matt Damon and Frances McDormand play a duo of energy company executives out to convince down-on-their-luck farmers in a rural Midwestern town to sell their land to the corporation, glibly promising them instant wealth. When they encounter opposition from a retired science professor and from a personable environmentalist, who launches a fervent campaign to thwart them, Damon's character begins to have second thoughts. Gus Van Sant directs from a script by Damon and Krasinski from a story by Dave Eggers.

I'm going to see this film after the meetup for brunch and jazz at Nottingham Contemporary.  Meet either there or in the cinema foyer at 12.45.  The film starts at 1.00.
