Derbyshire Walk

Time for another walk - Carsington Water and beyond

Further directions at the base of the page - with a link to the car park start point - by google maps

This time meeting by Carsington Water carpark and heading south by the water before going westerly away from the water and explore the surround countryside and even a cave along the route before heading back towards carsington and a nice pub where hopefully we can view the watersports on the lake with a refreshing drink.

The Route Details:

Distance: 9.2miles (14.81km's)

Start Time: 10.30am

Finish Time: 4.30pm

570.54 feet (173.90m) at the lowest point

980.65 feet (298.90m) at the highest point

I would class this route as an average walk, as you can see above there is 4 inclines along the route, the hills arent as high as they look, the first one from the 2km point of the route lasts 2.3km's and the incline is just a total of 60m overall and the steepest section starts just over the 8km point and lasts for 2.5km's with height gain of 120m overall, equally there are downward and flat sections, 7km's of downhill and 2.5km's flatish section.

• Carsington Water - (2km's along the waters edge)

• RAF Quadrant (Bomb) Tower

• Bradbourne Hall

• Hipley Hill Cave

• Limestone Kiln

• Rainster Rocks (rock formations)

• Kings Chair

• Carsington

And now for the Usual:

As always make sure you are prepared for this walk.
You will need:

• Walking boots are always the ideal footwear of choice

• Suitable clothes, Layers are good, (Jeans aren’t recommended as if they get wet they become heavy, lightweight breathable trousers are better).
• Waterproofs are essential even in our great British summertime,
• Snacks, Sweets etc.

• Adequate water or soft drinks

As with it being now 'British Summer Time....' don't forget your sunglasses

Sense of humour is essential!!

PLEASE BRING A PACKED LUNCH - we will stop along the route for Lunch, the half way point is the village of Bradbourne, unfortunately there are no shops in the village - so please be self-sufficient for food/drink for the day.

At the end of the walk there is a pub within 1km from the car park in Carsington this could be an option for a refreshing drink at the end to the walk.

Please arrive at the car park in plenty of time so we can promptly start at 10.30am

Excellent walk, good chat with everyone including some natives who thought we were on holiday or from Mars. Lovely to see new faces and excellent to catch up with old members - Kevin ahhhh. I saw you, Susan doing your stretches but I could not do mine I was in too much pain by the time I finished the walk so decided to settle for a load of paracetamol and ibrufen. Seem to have done the trick. Thank you for organising Andy

Only just spotted this on the calendar and am going out with the Ramblers. Very tempted to come on this walk but the hills look a challenge! Such a wimp! An unfit wimp! Have a great day.
