For a change I thought I would arrange a challenging walk into the country taking in some of the more dramatic parts of the Dark Peaks and following it up with a slap up dinner in good pub.
I will be getting the train at 7.47 am ( because I want a pint and want to be in charge of my own destiny )and I hope some others will join me but there is car parking space in Hathersage only a few mins walk from the start. I am returning on the 19.45 by which time I will have had food and drink aplenty.
The walk will be around 10 miles and take in some of the High Edges thereabouts. It will be challenging but only so much as to provide a sense of achievement on completing it, it will not be bonkers for the sake of it. Boots and rain protection will be important as the weather can turn quickly and unpredictably. Bring more than enough lunch time snacks and at least 1 ltr of water. There are shops in Hathersage if you need them.
The menu at the Little John is very varied and the food served in huge portions. The beer is also excellent. Details on link
At time of writing I was able to book a train for £9 return but on the day prices are more than double this.
