A Walk in the Dark Peak followed by a big Dinner

For a change I thought I would arrange a challenging walk into the country taking in some of the more dramatic parts of the Dark Peaks and following it up with a slap up dinner in good pub.

I will be getting the train at 7.47 am ( because I want a pint and want to be in charge of my own destiny )and I hope some others will join me but there is car parking space in Hathersage only a few mins walk from the start. I am returning on the 19.45 by which time I will have had food and drink aplenty.

The walk will be around 10 miles and take in some of the High Edges thereabouts. It will be challenging but only so much as to provide a sense of achievement on completing it, it will not be bonkers for the sake of it. Boots and rain protection will be important as the weather can turn quickly and unpredictably. Bring more than enough lunch time snacks and at least 1 ltr of water. There are shops in Hathersage if you need them.

The menu at the Little John is very varied and the food served in huge portions. The beer is also excellent. Details on link

At time of writing I was able to book a train for £9 return but on the day prices are more than double this.

The weather is forecast to rain. I work will still go ahead. Please make sure you bring some waterproof clothing. If it's very bad I make reduce the walk to about 8 miles.

I have finally planned the route to be 12 miles and take in Stanage Edge and rocky ridge leading down toward Fox Houses. There is an optional pub stop that would add a mile or so if we all agree. The route has a medium amount of uphill ascent but nothing too crazy. The edge offers very good views. The walk should be done by 4pm approx.
If the hot weather continues I would advise you take 2 x ltrs of water, sun screen and if possible a hat. There is a stage of the walk with no shade.
If you find you can no longer go please comment or delete your RSVP so we are not looking or waiting for you.

Hmmmm! That was dim of me. I was looking for the information in the narrative. I am at the Wine Society the night before so I'll see how my hangover is on the morning.
