>>>> Update <<<<
There's a big event at Wollaton Hall on Sunday which could make it pretty busy, and parking will be a nightmare, so how about trying a new venue?
The Victoria Embankment Park is easy to get to, there's lots of space to run around and plenty of free parking (Yes FREE! I love that word).
If there aren't too many little kids about we might even get to dip our toes in the paddling pool and have a go on the swings :)
And the even better news is...
that Andy is going to bring his rounders stuff
and Neal might even bring frisbee stuff for us all to try a new game.
I uploaded a couple of maps: http://www.meetup.com/Nottingham-Sociables/photos/23658522/
Busses: The green line 11 goes from the centre of town down Wilford Grove before turning left onto Bathey St. There are two stops near the corner so you've got two chances to get off close to the park.
Let's be optimistic about the weather and plan to get together for a picnic.
In previous years Andy Stanley has organised games of rounders and school sports day events. This time we'll do something similar (hopefully Andy will help us get organised) and some new games. Join in whatever you fancy or just enjoy lazing about. Just don't eat all the cake whilst the rest of us are playing rounders this time (you know who you are! ;)
Bring along a small amount of food and drink - post a comment below to say what you're bringing and we'll try to avoid having a dozen pots of hummus and no bread to dip in it - and dress appropriately for an afternoon in the (glorious?) weather.
You might not be aware of it but a very nice man called Andrew pays the subscription for our meetup group without asking anything in return (that's him up there sat on a red throne, or possibly a commode). He rescued us in our time of need and provided us with a new home. Normally he doesn't even come to Nottingham Sociables events and is completely hands-off, which is brilliant, but this time we're hoping he’ll join us so we can say thank you. So in addition to food, drink, good company, fun and games this year we'll have the chance (only if you want to) to say thank you and chuck a quid into a hat to contribute to the cost of the meetup website subscription. He hasn't asked us to and it's entirely voluntary. Maybe it's just a nice thing to not take his generosity for granted and make an effort to be a bit more self-sufficient as a group.
Keep an eye on the weather forecast. If by Saturday morning the forecast for Sunday looks really rubbish we'll rearrange the picnic for another time. Otherwise, watch this space for more details of the fun and games we're planning, and to say what food you're bringing.
