"The Ashes is award-winning Nottingham writer Michael Pinchbeck’s fascinating play about cricketing hero Harold Larwood, plucked from a Nottinghamshire coal mine to become the spearhead of England’s now infamous ‘bodyline’ attack.
Bowling fast at the batsman’s body, Larwood tore the Australian team apart in the winter of 1932/3. Amid accusations of ‘unsportsmanlike behaviour’, diplomatic relations between the two countries plummeted.
This is a dramatic tale of conflict between two countries, two classes and two men played out on the pitch and in the pavilion."
