The Threepenny Opera at Nottingham Playhouse

When times are tough who is the real criminal?

This classic from the writer of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, The Caucasian Chalk Circle and Mother Courage is brought bang up-to-date and given an anarchic twist in this exciting new production.

Imagine a world where evil goes unpunished and lowly souls remain on the poverty line. London’s most notorious criminal, Macheath, has recently married Polly, the daughter of Jonathan Peachum, leader of the beggars.

With well-known songs such as ‘Mack the Knife’ and ‘Pirate Jenny’, and live music played on stage by the actors themselves, this is one riotous show you’ll be begging to see!

Show starts at 7:45pm - we will meet at 7pm for a drink beforehand.

If we get enough people, we can book in a block and get the group rate which is a substantial discount, probably around £13 each.

Please only RSVP if you are sure you want to come and will be able to pay me in advance for your ticket.

I've gone to the playhouse straight from work. Currently in Cast in the area 'behind' the bar. I'm wearing a wine coloured hoodie & drinking a hot chocolate if anyone else arrives early...

Hi. I did look for you but couldn't see anyone in Cast who fitted your description unfortunately. Glad you enjoyed the night!

Thanks Adrian for organising. I thought it was an excellent play and production: actors, musicians, singers, set, topical updates etc etc. Sorry I had to dash off afterwards to get bus, due to late finish.

Thanks for coming, everyone. It was lovely to meet/see you all and very nice to have so many people at an event. Hope you to see you at another one soon.

Really interesting evening - glad to have seen this show - some amazing talent! Met some really nice people and chatted during the interval and afterwards in the bar. Unfortunately didn't catch anyone's names - but great to see you! :) Thanks Adrian - it can't be easy organising these events - but a great success.

Good production and some excellent musician/actors. I liked the updated script and thought all the performances had great energy. A bit patchy, maybe, but the Mr Peachum and Jenny characters were a stand-out. Glad I went - many thanks for organising.

Hi Thanks for organising it. I love the play. It was kind of bleak and dark but I like things like that and the music hall style bawdiness and songs lifted it up. Sorry couldn't really say goodbye to anyone but had to rush off to catch my bus due to late finish.
This is the 2nd Brecht play I've seen and they were both brilliant, so maybe I'm now a Brecht fan

Great to meet up. Didn't like the show so much...sorry. Left early. Loved the actors . Thought they were very talented. However, did not like the production and the music much. Fantastic voices etc . Hope to meet up again though...

Went straight from work and killed time reading my book. Then went in to see the play. Found the bit before the beginning a bit rowdy. The second half of the play was by far better than the first. There was a man from the Meetup group next to me. I spoke to him briefly then took off to catch my bus.

    Hi Suzanne,

NCT/Playhouse are offering free rtn bus tickets for theatre goers in Feb. You can pick up a bus tkt by just asking for one at the Playhouse box office. Snag is you do need your theatre ticket to show the bus driver. I wonder if it is poss to get my (and anyone else who wants to take advantage of this offer) theatre ticket? Have you collected them or are they still at box office?

    January 24, 2014

    • Adrian

Hi Karen, you can't collect them individually as it's a group booking. The tickets are being sent to me by post so if you are going to see me at another meetup you can let me know and I'll bring your ticket along.

      January 25, 2014

  • Adrian

Thanks, folks, for your payments. We've ended up with 11 people. If anyone else wants to come, they are welcome to RSVP here and book their own tickets

Sorry Adrian. Must have been a gremlin! Payment went through no problem when I tried this morning

  • Karen

I have tried to make payment via Paypal but got msg to say there was an error in your email address. Is the address you have given correct?

    January 13, 2014

    • Adrian

I think it was correct as other people have paid. If you copy-pasted it from the email it might have had a space added or something - try typing it into PayPal directly.

      January 14, 2014

  • Adrian

OK, we have 12 tickets booked at a price of £12.40. I will send out details of how to pay me by email.

    January 8, 2014

    • Adrian

      Payment info:
I have booked the tickets and payment is now due. We were able to get tickets at the discounted group rate which is £12.40 each (no further concessions available).

Please also include your name in the message with your payment so that I know who has paid.

Alternatively, you can pay by cheque. Email me for my postal address (I live in Sherwood if you are nearby want to drop it through my door). Or, you can pay me in cash in person if you see me at another meetup.

Please make payment by 15th January.
