For all of you that have considered growing your own vegetables in Nottingham this is the place to kick start your gardening year. Nottingham Organic Gardeners have been in Nottingham for over 20 years and for the past 8 years (maybe even longer?!) they organise an Annual Potato Day. This year Potato day will be held in Sherwood just off Mansfield Road near the Sherwood Manor Pub. Last year Nottingham Organic Gardeners collated over 46 different varieties of Potato as well as onion sets and shallots for sale. For those who were overwhelmed with the choice on offer there were local gardeners on hand to offer advice and help for growing the best potatoes. Going to events like this is one of the cheapest ways to buy seed potatoes for the year and the best way for maximising varieties. Last year I tried over 25 types of potato for the bargin price of £7.50. Trust me, the garden centres will not be able to compete with those prices! Nottingham Organic Gardeners ensure that you get the best prices by buying in bulk and by selling the tubors to you for only 15p each! Dirt cheap! The event is held at URC Church Sherwood, Nottingham 1 Edwards Lane, Sherwood, Nottingham, NG5 3AA just off Mansfield Road behind the Sherwood Manor Pub. If any meetup members are interested in attending, I (one of the organizers of the event) will be at the church all day. If you want to get your potatoes early then queues start forming at 10am for the 10.30 opening. I will offer to meet people at 12 o'clock, and will be very happy to show you around and talk about potatoes. There will tea/coffee and homemade cakes for sale on the day. There is a £1 entrance fee for non-members of Nottingham Organic Gardeners.
