A taste of Provence

  • July 11, 2014 · 8:00 PM

As the weather is getting summery, I was thinking of holding a Provence evening outdoor and have barbecue at the same time.

As we all know, Provence is synonymous of the summer with its lavender fields, cricket song, outdoor terraces and .. roses de Provence. It is that, but it is also far more than that, with unheard of collection top wine makers and some of the best red and whites bottles of the Southern Europe : Trevallon, Clos Milan, Pibarnon, Scamandre, Tempier, Richeaume, Simone, Les Terres Promises etc..

We will gather in Anne and Parag's garden (if English weather permits) and have a collection of Mediterranean dishes that will go well with some outstanding roses, than barbecue with red wine, cheeses with some of their best white bottles, and dessert with the late harvest nectars from Corsica (Muscat du cap Corse).

Participants are encouraged to bring a dish, but there is no particular list,  just bring the mediteranean food that you would like to share.

Participation fee is 20£/ head as usual and places are limited to 20 participants.

Cheers and see you there on Friday the 11th.

Yet another fabulous evening. Thank you Emmanuel and Simon and Trish for hosting.
Could almost feel we were in Provence sat on Simon and Trisha's terrace under a canopy of vines. Some delicious rose's - Chateau Simone rose in particular ( left my notes behind so can't be sure of name)- and the delectable apricot flavoured desert wine.
The food was amazing too- loved the home made pizza's. Great fun and excellent company.

Brilliant!! Emmanuel you surpassed yourself with the wines, you've convinced me that great wines can be found outside of the classic regions. But it could be a lifetimes work to find them. I guess that is part of the fun for a dedicated oenophile. And Simon, Trish and James, thanks for being the perfect hosts. Lovely house, lovely setting and lovely food. Pizzas fantastic, I'm already planning my own pizza oven :-)

Thanks to Emmanuel, all who came, all who brought stuff, all who enjoyed the wine and our rather extended dinner. We wouldn't do things like this if we didn't enjoy it. Your positive comments are very encouraging, we will have to do it again sometime! Simon & Trish Jackson

Hi everybody, I have sent you all an email with Simon's adress and directions on how to get there. There will be plenty of food available so have a light lunch : buffet of various salads (niceoise, etc..) and amuse bouche with the roses, a whole salmon with the whites, medium rare BBQed steaks and homemade pizzas with the reds, and several desserts with the sweet wines. I will bring 6 surprising rose wines, 4 whites, 3 reds, and 3 sweets, so 16 bottles from Provence to go through. We plan to start earlier to enjoy the summery evening, so around 7.30ish would be nice. Weather forecast is looking ok, so should be a good night.

Hi everybody, Simon who is hosting the next evening about Provence in his place in Edwalton, is proposing to cook a few things for us : steak, chickens, whole salmon, veggies, garlic & herb bread, pizza dough with choice of toppings for 5£/head. So it means that a meal is included, and the wines will be served in such manner that they should match (more or less..). Participants can still bring starters (salads, etc..) or desserts if they wish but no obligation as most things will already be available. How does this sound ?
