Burgundy greatest whites

  • Aug 1, 2014 · 8:00 PM

This wine tasting evening will is meant to be a guide of the main white wine appellations in Burgundy, including Meusault, Chassagne, Puligny Montrachet, Chablis,  Maconnais, and many others not so well known. We will explore the influence of the soil (hence the 43 different areas of appellation !) as well as the talent of some remarquable wine makers which have given this region its reputation, and made it the land of the most expensive wines on the planet.

Yet as always, the grand cru or 1er cru appellation aren't everything,  and sometimes the intervention of emerging talented wine makers enable to transform this chardonnay juice of some lesser well known "cru" into unforgettable nectars at affordable rates (for a club like ours !)

As usual, the price per head will be 20/£. No food will be provided this time as we aim to have it at the River Crescent reception hall (however snacks can be brought by participants), and if the weather is fair we may enjoy sipping those wines along the river terrace…

See you all there..

Another very good night with some new faces. Hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we always do. I knew I liked burgundy whites but these took it up to another level from my usual buys. Special mention for me were the Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, the Pouilly - Fuisse les menetrieres and the last one ( can't remember its name. I wonder why !!) Thanks Chris for inviting us and letting us enjoy your river view and to Emmanuel for sharing his good taste.

Thanks to Emmanuel & Chris too for hosting. Some of the wines really were spectacular. Great to see so many people enjoying wine & each other's company. A sunny evening with a lovely sunset would have been the cherry on the cake, but was not to be.....

A great night A great night again, thanks Emmanuel & I agree with Rob, its great to have wines we wouldn't normally have. My top 3 were the Dom Guffens Macon Pierreclos, Vincent Dancer's (what a great name) Chassagne Montracht & the Grand Cru Chablis that I don’t know who made?!. Thanks to Chris for being another great host.

Not the best white burgundy ive had by a long chalk but still some very interesting wines, particularly the macons. Once again emmamuel you have opened my eyes to excellent wines for good value. I have been put off drinking my usual 5 pound chardonnay for good! Thanks chris for hosting great venue.

Hi all, the evening on Burgundy white is coming up soon. As usual I ask all new comers to confirm their participation par email as we do not want to have regulars in the waiting list when we have last minute drop-outs. The evening will take place in the conference room of the River Crescent, therefore there will be no food : back to hardcore sessions with only bread and water... As a matter of fact, it may just suit the evening as some of these Puligny Montrachet, Meursault, St Aubin are remarkebly pricy (and also just remarkable) and we wouldn't want to spoil their nuances with hints of mayo or mushy peas.. Just kidding, the food pairing evenings are also great, but this isn't not one of them. See you there

Here is the address of the venue :
    RIVER CRESCENT NOTTINGHAM
The address of River Crescent is Waterside Way , (Just by the Racecourse and next to the River) , NG2 4RH.

When you arrive at River Crescent there are two outside parking areas .. one on the road before the main buildings and one after the main buildings.. please park in these rather than at the main area..and then come to Building 4.. we will be at the back in the Marketing Suite. If its warm I am sure we can go outside...
