Discovering Verdejo (Sarah's wine do)

Message from Sarah :

I’ll be hosting an evening looking specifically at the Verdejo grape and the Rueda appellation where it grows. Hopefully over the evening we will try a variety of different single and varietal blends, with a view of learning more about the different growing regions and harvesting procedures, and how these affect (or not!) the wines that are produced.

This won’t be an evening for high-end wines or for the red wine fans out there, but it will be a chance for us all to learn about an area that has perhaps not been as well known and appreciated as it might be. I'll be providing some more information on tasting notes too! But it's not all learning, and I hope it's going to be a nice social evening and I’ll provide some thematically relevant nibbles to boot smiles.

I can only host six people as I don’t live in a chateau in Edwalton a la Simon! Once you are signed up I’ll send on my address etc.. I think £12 per head is going to be about right which I hope is OK for everyone.

It was a great evening, thanks Sarah. I was really impressed on your knowledge & what can be done in 10 days ;) I loved learning about a grape that was new to me, & on first tasting I thought the Aldi wine was amazing but on going back to them it was superseded by the M&S Marques de Alacon. I also liked your simple wine evaluation chart & helpful notes on the back. It was informative & fun :-)

If people want to bring nibbles that's very kind, but this is a tasting evening so probably best to stick to small and fairly plain things!

    • Emma T

fair point, nothing too strong that will affect the wine

Sarah you mentioned bring some nibbles, I was wondering about maybe a few people bringing tapas if they fancied bringing anything or have you got something in particular in mind to nibble on? I could make a Tortilla?

Well Sorry to miss this as I had a great Verdejo from Aldi recently...will you post the 'winners and losers' Sarah?

    August 4

    • SarahMcD

Do you mean the wines or the attendees on their blind tasting scores?! I will happily post about the wines and thanks for sharing the Aldi tip ;)

Emma has now agreed to host, very very kindly, as she has a bit more room at her place than I do!

    August 5

  • Emma T

Sarah, I've signed up even though more than 6 people have shown interest. If you wanted to have it at my house in Hyson Green, I could host upto 20? but no worries if you wanted to keep it small and at yours.
