Of course. Through the years I have maintained a tradition of buying one or two special bottles to help celebrate special occasions with friends and family and that has definitely made those moments extra special and memorable.
I have been to formal wine tastings e.g. at wine merchants. I have also hosted several informal tastings. Never done a blind tasting but I think its a good idea as you can rid yourself of preconceptions and biases.
Only though reading books on wine. I have a reasonable collection. Recently bought Jancis Robinson's "The Great Wine Book" from 1982, its an interesting and intelligent book.
Obviously all of the above contribute to a great wine, the overriding factors for me seem to be a purity of expression of the grape varieties combined with a harmonious balance of acidity tannin fruit etc
Hi I moved to Nottingham 3 years ago and have been involved in various social groups. I have been passionate about wine since sharing digs with some French students back in my university days.
Just the sort of thing I was looking for. Bring on the next tasting!
