Because I am a Nottingham Programmer/Developer who works in a team of one, me. I would like to meet other people to exchange ideas and feel a bit more connected.
I've had to meet groups of strangers who have less than even a photograph of me to go on before in the past. Generally, I find, they tend to organise themselves near a doorway and the actual group leader looks about nervously for people to arrive until all the people who RSVPed yes are accounted for. I applaud the laid back attitude that means that the meetup I tried to attend could have been in full swing and it blended in so well with all the groups of people who actually knew each other properly that I couldn't see it. Not only that but the conversation must have been so good nobody noticed the lone newbie wandering around looking lost, alone, irritated and vaguely miserable. I would usually rather walk over paddling pools filled with razor wire and broken glass than meet new people, this is the first time I've been forced into it by my situation and been slapped in the face for the effort.
