Nicole Krauss: Great House and The History of Love; Jonathan Franzen: Freedom; Elizabeth Strout: Olive Kitteridge
I recommend the 4 books I mentioned above because they are complex, well crafted, and I'd love to get other people's views about them. Update: We're reading Great House for the first meeting.
I love talking about books, and would like to find others who share my interest and are willing to commit to reading and discussing one book a month.
I'm a non-fiction writer who loves to read fiction, especially contemporary fiction. I used to be a high school English teacher, and discussing books is the part I miss the most. FYI, I also teach line dancing in Sebastopol and Santa Rosa.
This what I'd always wanted a book club to be. We delve deeply into contemporary fiction, enjoying the exchange of insights. Our members are smart and enjoy looking into the nuances of the books we discuss. I'm told it's rare that a book club stays on-topic for the whole meeting, but we do!
