This is a casual easygoing ride on Oregon's newest designated Scenic Bikeway.   The picture below is from April when I rode this scenic bikeway on a cool rainy day.  The views of Lake Billy Chinook were fantastic even on this rainy day.

From the Oregon.gov website:  "The Madras Mountain Views Scenic Bikeway is a 30-mile loop through high desert, showcasing basalt palisades and opportunities to see many of the Majestic Cascade Mountains from one spot; including the Three Sisters Mountains  Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Hood and Three Fingered Jack.

The bikeway starts and finishes in downtown Madras, a friendly small town with several wonderful restaurants and hotels.

The route takes you to overlooks above Cove Palisades State Park and Lake Billy Chinook. These overlooks are great places for seeing eagles, raptors and deer. This section of the route has almost no traffic.

The route passes through Culver, Metolius and Madras, offering a variety of amenities, giving riders a chance to enjoy the small towns and buy refreshments along the route."

Route: Madras Mountain Views Scenic Bikeway

Pace: 13-15 mph on the flats.  Faster riders are welcome to ride ahead on their own.

Start Time:  10:30 AM sharp

Distance:  29.5 miles

Hills:  There is a longer hill toward the end.

Attitude:  This is a casual ride designed to enjoy the scenery with stops for photos and breaks to just enjoy the views and scenery.

Traffic: Be comfortable riding in and around traffic.

Lunch After the Ride:  A couple of different options in Madras for lunch.

Group Ride at the stated pace.  You are welcome to ride on your own at a slower or faster pace.

Ride Leaders: Jan Westfall[masked]  [masked], and Joan Nugent  [masked][masked]-3283.  Please call or email with any questions.

Weather Cancellation Policy: It's summer!

Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request.

Always bring plenty of water, snacks for energy, a flat repair kit, including a spare tube.  A tool kit and small pump is good, but if you don’t have one there is usually someone on a group ride who does.  Carry a credit card and a little cash to buy refreshments.

Mandatory for all riders.

Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road.  Please represent us well.

All riders must have their rides in good working order and must bring a flat kit & spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride. We will try to help!

All riders must be able to change a flat should they have one or have a way to get picked up (AAA, a friend…). There is often but not always someone on the ride who knows how to help you change your tire so plan accordingly.

Note: Your RSVP signifies that you agree to the following. Organizers, event hosts and other participants will not be held responsible for any individual at any event. Each rider rides at their own risk and is solely responsible for any damage to their equipment or themselves.

Final Note: RSVP’s cannot include a +1 or Guest. If you choose to bring a friend or family member, they themselves must sign up as a member of NumBumz.

Excellent ! Head winds were challenging about half the ride. But no rain until the last mile or two. Magnificent view if Lake Billy a Chinook. Thanks Jan & Joan. The most fun though was the terrific group of riding comerades.
